Cowlitz Asics take 3rd in Silver with a "sterling" day!
The regional season has once again drawn to a close with Asics giving a valiant effort, falling in 3 to the Suncats for a place in the Silver final.
It was a game of decreasing numbers as Cowlitz started the season @ 16 and ended with the 11th place finish. In between those events, we flirted with the Gold division in 2 of the 3 Power Leagues and made considerable progress as a team composed of no returns.
The tourney started with our blowout at the hands of Excel, but then it got very interesting. #3 seed Webfoot Gold gave us a push and we pushed back, losing in 3. The next match was against Alpine Aces, a team we were 0-2 against this year, although we went 3 each time. With a great deal of grit and determination we took the match in 3 by a 15-12 score to the higher seeded Aces team. It moved us up, and put us against #4 Rimrock, which handled us easily to finish the day.
Sunday's competition moved to the Boys & Girls Club and a 9:00 match-up with the Suncats of Beaverton. Starting slow ended up being our downfall as we eventually lost by 2 in overtime 27-29. It was now a sudden victory for the rest of the day, which the team became comfortable, with and thrived beating in our 1st season attempts with Oregon Juniors and North Clackamas, along with a huge win over a much bigger Athena team that gave us that season series 2-1.
After three straight wins we eventually succumbed to the Suncats to finish our day.
The team effort was very strong as evidenced by team stats of:
91% serving, 2.30 passing, and 181 digs over 2 days; a very solid performance indeed. It was extremely gratifying for us coaches to watch the team work so hard and long for a common goal. Team leaders in statistical catagories bear that out.
Serving %: Danielle 97, Erin 93, Hannah 91, and Alesha 90
Points: Alesha 39, Danle 36, and Hannah 32
Passing: Alesha 2.39, Erin 2.34, and Shantelle 2.33
Assists: Hannah 93, and Danielle 61
Kills %: Hannah 33, Danielle 32, Kylie 26, and Rachel 18
Total: Rachel 47, Hannah 46, and Shantelle 40
Blocks

Stuffs: Rachel 8, Kylie 6, and Hannah 6
Digs: Alesha 39, Hannah 36, Shantelle 36, and Erin 35
It was a very solid team effort that resulted in the team's solid finish.
We play in the Willamette Invitational on May 8th and 9th. We look forward to the challenge.
